Hi Vinny, I have both a review and a few tips. When I first got involved in building a website I used comcast and set up a basic website. I had no previous experience with html. I though that I did a great job. I realized that my site was not receiving any traffic so I set up a Google adwords account. I was spending quite a bit of money to direct traffic to my site. The traffic was not helping either. I realized that my content was not good enough to keep people interested in what I had to offer. My problem did not lie with comcast. I did not have any experience with proper web design. I read up on some information on building traffic and realized that I needed to start over. I searched many web hosts and compared them side by side. I found a web host that fit my needs to a “T”.
They provided me with assistance, training, forum support and evaluated each step of my design/build for optimal performance. I would suggest that you do the same by comparing several. This will ensure that you find the one that suits you as well. Try first comparing feature by feature then dollar for dollar. I have a little tiny website with not too much traffic and e-mail. I host it with IXWebHosting.com. Web hosting is ok, but e-mail keeps having problems (IMAP keeps hanging for a long while and web e-mail interface keeps hanging too).

When I look for alternatives, many of them are either high end and too expensive (>/mo) or have crappy reviews.

What hosting service should I use?

Why do there have to be so many options? Can anyone recommend a host? I’ve been trying to research online to see what people think about different ones, but a lot of these “review” sites look questionable.

I’d like to hear what some actual people think about some of these.

hostmonster
lunarpages
hostingpad

Are these the best options out there, are there some I don’t know about? Please help.

When looking for a host there are a few major point of options you must choose from, the cheap hosting is never a way to go.

When you need hosting, you need to choose a host that uses cPanel, and theres no other alternative thats going to sastisfy you more.

Another option is WHM (another project by the cPanel company).
It’s called Web Host Manager, its basically giving YOU access to host OTHER websites for your own purposes.

WHM is typically more expensive.. the less expensive you find online, the crappier the hosting is going to be.

I currently have a membership with ResellerZoom, using there WHM package. There stable 98% of the time (i have a down issue every blue moon). But one major fault I find with them is that there WHM/Cpanel access is rather slow to use, making things more time consuming, but not entirely horrible.

The package runs me about 10$? a month.. and I’m happy because I’m getting more than a bang for my buck.

BlueHost doesnt have cpanel/whm
Hostmonster doesnt have cpanel/whm
Lunarpages – down currently
Hostingpad – has cpanel

If anything.. the cheapest and most efficent I’ve found online, period, is resellerzoom.

That or get your own webserver w/ cpanel/whm installed.

www.getavps.com is a good place. A full (stable server there the fastest virtual servers ive ever seen) with WHM will cost between 35-40$.

And you have the functionality of SSH and using the server for other purposes too.

Whatever suits your fancy, hope this helps.

Well, for my website, I use a service called 1and1 – they have incredible pricing, rock solid reliability, and tons of services.

I’ve been very happy with them for several years now.

Just to comment on the guy below…I’ve called them several times and I get a human right away. They have always been helpful, and they are loaded with features way beyond GoDaddy for much less cost per month. I actually LEFT GoDaddy for 1and1 just because of the lack of support and the expensive cost behind GoDaddy’s services…

Advice and suggestions on web hosting companies?

I’ve been looking for a webhost to host 3 different sties I have under 1 plan. I don’t need a dedicated server or anything big and fancy (yet).

I use Yahoo now for one of my sites but they don’t support hosting multiple domains on one plan. That is a must for me.

So far I’m considering BlueHost, DreamHost, and IPowerWeb. Any thoughts on them? Are there any other hosts I should consider?

Are there any good web hosting catalogs with user reviews? I looked for user reviews web hosting providers and I didn’t have much luck.
