Question by JC: How long to create a new web page on an existing site and embed some simple code?
If you have an existing, basic corporate web site and you want to embed code for an already-created “web form” how long, on average would that take? A new page would need to be created (copied) with a new web address of course to point to.
Just curious – web developer said it would take 2 hours. Seems long to me.

If the site is using standard XHTML and CSS code, that task would take a matter of minutes, then some minimal time for testing the form on standard browsers. But there’s more to this situation than just the time it takes.

Someone who has been working on the site can do it that fast because they know exactly what they’ll encounter. But a contractor new to the site has to take into account that there will be rounds of discussions and reviews, so they add time for that. The contractor may also be looking at the site for the first time, so may be anticipating that there are irregularities in the code that they have to fix or work around. Or they could be charging you to learn how to do this, but if you don’t trust the contractor, you shouldn’t be working with them.

What do you think? Answer below!
